Yesterday, I donated my blood for a friend.

She’s sick with dengue and her platelets went down to 20. But somehow the doctor, being a big believer of self healing, kept deferring blood transfusion unless really really necessary. Yet she told my friend to get ready, to ask people with the same blood type to donate just in case it drops further.

As much as I was looking forward to be able to share life literally, I know that I am not my friend’s savior. That it’s not up to me to heal her but up to God.

I was reminded of Joshua, Moses’ Aide. In Numbers 13, it was said that his original name was Hoshea which, when translated, means “salvation.” But Moses had his name changed to Joshua or “The Lord saves.” How amazing is it that even in the Old Testament, the Lord intended to lift the burden from us humans to save! Because, try as hard as we might, we can’t save anyone, not even ourselves.

So whether my friend gets healed because of blood transfusion or by any other means, I trust God that He is the one who saves, the one who heals. And I know that He would not withhold showing His majesty, His glory to anyone He delights in. He is faithful and He will do just as He promised.

UPDATE [I GOT THIS SMS FROM MY FRIEND AS OF 1PM TODAY]:

Hi all, thank you for praying. My platelets went from 21 to 26. Thank God! They’ll let me go home if it reaches 65. I’ll have more tests to monitor my blood. Kindly continue to pray. Thanks!”

God is amazing! :)
