A Lesson in Obedience

Somehow, I find myself taking a big role in a certain ministry at church. And me being new at this, I am, admittedly, overwhelmed. Scared even.

But as I ran to a friend and spoke of my fears, I was reminded of the Israelites in Numbers 14. They moved in fear. And in their fear, they complained, grumbled, and angered God. With God, being the just Father that he is, gave the Israelites a “spanking” of their lifetime. These rebellious people were not to enter the promise land until each one of them who complained, has died. What ultimately was meant to be 40 days in the desert became 40 years, with their children bearing the consequences of their sin.

After Moses told them what the Lord will do, they went up to him, acknowledged their sin and told him, “now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised!” Funny, they wanted to rectify their sin with disobedience. But the Lord’s presence was no longer with them and they perished doing so.

So as much as I find myself scared at taking on this project, I am more scared at disobeying God. I know it won’t be easy but if the Lord is with me on this, then He will fight with me, He will fight for me. This is a fight of faith after all.
